Explanation

Let the total monthly expenditure before and after the price hike remain the same.

Given: Original petrol price = ₹9090/litre Mileage = 1616 km/litre Distance = 22002200 km/month New petrol price = ₹90+10%90 + 10\% of ₹90=9990 = ₹99/litre

Before price hike: Expenditure = (2200÷16)×90 (2200 \div 16) \times 90

After price hike: Expenditure = (d÷16)×99 (d \div 16) \times 99

Since expenditure remains the same, (d÷16)×99=(2200÷16)×90 (d \div 16) \times 99 = (2200 \div 16) \times 90 99d=2200×9099d = 2200 \times 90 d=(2200×90)÷99=2000d = (2200 \times 90) \div 99 = 2000 km

Reduction in travel = 22002000=2002200 - 2000 = 200 km

Hence, the person must reduce his monthly travel by 200200 km.
