Ethical Considerations - Guide AI integration in education
(1) Privacy & Data Protection; AI tools in schools collect sensitive student data - assessment scores, learning patterns etc.
→ Data could be misused by Ed-Tech platforms for commercial purposes.
→ Schools must ensure data are anonymized & secured.
eg. Enforcing Digital Personal Data Protection Act -> AI enabled education platforms; mandatory Parental Consent for minors.
(2) Fairness, Inclusivity & Prevent Stereotype
→ UNESCO (2021) report -> AI tutoring systems unintentionally reinforced gender stereotypes in STEM subjects.
→ Algorithms must be trained to avoid biases based on gender, language or region. eg. Multilingual AI tools through AI4Bharat.
(3) Transparency & Accountability - maintain trust in AI
→ eg. CBSE AI based assessment pilot (2022) - teacher review algorithmic grading to maintain trust.
→ Parental & Community engagement by informing them about AI usage, data policies etc.
(4) Human Oversight engagement; AI should not replace human work or teachers' autonomy.
→ UNESCO's AI Ethics Recommendation (2021) "human-in-the loop governance (aligns ethical principle)".
(5) Ethical Pedagogy & Teacher's Training -> Only 29% teachers currently have digital pedagogy training [NISHTHA 2.0].
→ Teachers must be trained not only to use AI tools but teach AI ethics & critical thinking.
(6) Psychological & Cognitive Well being -> AI-induced dis-education" - reduce students' incentive to learn independently. NCERT cautions excessive digital learning weakens creativity & empathy.
→ AI tools should support not replace emotional learning or peer interaction.
(7) Equity & Accessibility -> UDISE+ data shows only 38% Government schools have internet access -> "Digital Divide".
→ AI rollout must be accompanied by Infrastructure development through PM e-Vidya & India's AI Mission (2024).

As NEP 2020 and India AI Mission move forward, India must ensure AI becomes not just a digital tool, but a moral compass for its learners.
