Republic Day 2026 Overview
The Republic Day celebrations 2026 showcased India’s military strength and cultural diversity. The parade was centred on the theme “150 Years of Vande Mataram”, honouring the national song and its role in the freedom movement.
- Chief Guests were Mr Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
- The government continued the “Jan Bhagidari” initiative by inviting around 10,000 special guests from different walks of life.
- Around 2,500 artists performed cultural programmes at Kartavya Path.
- The parade featured marching contingents, indigenous defence equipment, and tableaux by States, UTs and Ministries.
- A spectacular Indian Air Force flypast concluded the celebrations.

A Republic Day tableau is a themed visual display presented by States, Union Territories, and Central Ministries during the annual Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path.

Republic Day Tableau 2026 Theme

The Republic Day Tableau 2026 for the 77th Republic Day was organised around two broad themes:
- Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram (स्वतंत्रता का मंत्र: वंदे मातरम्)
- Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat (समृद्धि का मंत्र: आत्मनिर्भर भारत)
The theme of the Republic Day is decided by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in consultation with other central ministries and government agencies.

A total of 30 tableaux rolled down Kartavya Path, New Delhi, during the 77th Republic Day Parade on 26 January 2026. Republic Day Tableaux Selection Process
The Republic Day tableaux are selected through a two-stage evaluation process conducted by an expert committee under the Ministry of Defence. The process ensures that only well-designed tableaux reflecting national themes, cultural diversity, and government priorities are showcased during the parade.
- Submission of Proposals: States, Union Territories, and Central Ministries submit detailed design sketches of their proposed tableaux.
- Expert Evaluation: An expert committee comprising specialists in art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, and choreography evaluates the proposals.
- Stage one – Concept Review: The committee examines the initial sketches and may suggest modifications or improvements.
- Stage two – 3D Model Review: Designs approved in the first stage are developed into 3D models for final selection.
- Alternative Display: Tableaux not selected for the main parade are displayed at Bharat Parv, held at the Red Fort from 26 to 31 January.
- Rotational policy: The government follows a rotational plan (2024–2026) to ensure that every State and Union Territory gets an opportunity to participate in the Republic Day Parade within a three-year cycle.
