Indian Army Day 2026: 78th Parade

For the first time, the Army Day Parade was held outside a cantonment in a public space on Mahal Road in Jagatpura, Jaipur, on January 15, 2026.

Who Attended

  • Mizoram Governor and former Army Chief General V.K. Singh (Chief Guest).
  • ​Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the evening Shaurya Sandhya program.
  • ​Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and ​Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan.
  • Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde and ​Chief Minister of Rajasthan Bhajanlal Sharma.

Gallantry and Honour

  • Officers decorated with Ashok Chakra, Param Vir Chakra, and Maha Vir Chakra led the parade and saluted the Parade Commander.
  • ​Sena Medals (Gallantry) were conferred on soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Sindoor.
  • ​This made the occasion deeply symbolic and inspiring for the nation.

Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa was a pioneering military leader and the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. He played a decisive role in shaping India’s armed forces after Independence.

  • Led Indian forces on the Western Front during the 1947 Indo-Pakistan War.
  • Took charge as the first Commander-in-Chief of independent India’s Army on 15 January 1949.
  • Indian Army Day is celebrated annually to mark this historic leadership transition.
  • Succeeded General Sir F. R. R. Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief.
