A clock strikes once at 1 o’clock, twice at 2 o’clock, and thrice at 3 o’clock, and so on. If it takes 12 seconds to strike at 5 o’clock, what is the time taken by it to strike at 10 o’clock?

Select an option to attempt

Explanation

The time taken by the clock to strike at each hour is directly proportional to the number of strikes. At 5 o'clock, the clock strikes 5 times, and it takes 12 seconds.

To find the time for 10 o'clock, let's establish the time per strike:

Time per strike = 1212 seconds divdiv 55 strikes = 2.42.4 seconds per strike

Now, at 10 o'clock, the clock strikes 10 times:

Time taken to strike at 10 o'clock = 1010 strikes imes imes 2.42.4 seconds per strike = 2424 seconds

Answer: B. 24 seconds
