Need for Reforms
1. Changing Global Power Dynamics – Global balance has shifted significantly but institutions such as the UNSC still reflect post-WWII order. This mismatch undermines the legitimacy and representativeness of UN system.
2. Inefficiencies in Institutional Functioning: Multiple agencies & of overlapping mandates often lead to bureaucratic delays and duplication of efforts.
3. Emerging Global Challenges: Modern threats such as climate change, cyber security risks, terrorism and pandemics require coordinated global responses.
4. Declining Trust in Multilateralism: Increasing geopolitical rivalries & unilateral actions by major powers have weakened confidence in multilateral institutions.
5. Demand for Greater Inclusivity & Representation by developing countries & regions in global decision-making.

In an era marked by interconnected global challenges, the effectiveness of international governance depends on a responsive and credible multilateral system. As Antonio Guterres stated in his speech - "1945 problem solving will not solve 2026 problems."
