UPSC Prelims 2026 in 5 Months: Study Timetable & Complete Strategy

Dec, 2025

7 min read

UPSC Prelims 2026 is 150 days away.

Yes, there is pressure, but there is also enough time to turn things around if you study the right way. These next five months are not for trying everything. They are for following a strict study plan with discipline. A fixed timetable. Limited books. Daily revision. PYQs and tests without excuses.

Here, I have shared a smart, practical study timetable and strategy for UPSC Prelims 2026, built for the last 5 months. It is realistic. It is strict. It is meant for students who want to crack the UPSC Prelims 2026. Let’s get started!

What you Should NOT DO If you Want to Clear Prelims 2026

The next 150 days are about doing less, but doing it well with focus, repetition, and regular practice.

1. Stop chasing new books.

NCERTs and standard books should be your base.

2. Stop ignoring PYQs.

Previous year questions  (last 10–15 years) are your biggest guide. Revise them again and again.

3. Stop reading current affairs randomly.

Focus only on relevant topics linked to the syllabus and PYQs.

4. Stop studying without revision.

Plan fixed revision slots every week.

5. Stop avoiding tests.

Take tests regularly. Learn to manage time, pressure, and mistakes.

6. Stop ignoring regular CSAT Practice.

If you don’t practice CSAT, nothing can help you qualify for UPSC Prelims 2026.

Subject-Wise Priority for UPSC Prelims 2026

This is a subject-wise priority chart for Prelims 2026. Stick this on your study table wall. Study smart, not equally.

  • Polity – High weightage, direct questions, revise again and again
  • Economy – Focus on basics + current relevance
  • History – Selective reading, repeated revision
  • Geography – Concepts + maps (places in news) + PYQs
  • Environment – Static + current-based integration
  • Science & Technology – Basics + current affairs notes + PYQs
  • Current Affairs – Linked with static subjects, not isolated
  • CSAT: Daily practice of comprehension, reasoning, and maths basics. Aim for consistent 66+ marks.
