Passage

India has tremendous potential for solar energy. We all realize that we have to stop burning fossil fuels to meet our energy needs. But certain renewable resources are still going through their cost curves and learning curves to get the required amount of output. The Indian Government has strongly committed to its targets of reducing emissions by 33 per cent by 2030, and towards this it has initiated a strong push towards a gas-based economy-and has also invested heavily in renewable energy. However, business houses are wary of investing too heavily in renewable energy at a time when the technology is not yet ready.

Which one of the following is the most logical and rational inference that can be made from the above passage?

Select an option to attempt

Explanation

Option A is incorrect. The passage states, "The Indian Government has strongly committed to its targets of reducing emissions by 33 percent by 2030 and has initiated a strong push towards a gas-based economy, along with heavy investments in renewable energy." This directly negates the claim made in Option A.

Option B is incorrect. While the passage acknowledges that renewable resources are still progressing through their cost and learning curves, it emphasizes that investments in renewable energy are a better long-term choice compared to relying on imported gas. Thus, Option B cannot be inferred from the passage.

Option C is correct. The passage notes that "certain renewable resources are still going through their cost curves and learning curves to get the required amount of output" and that "business houses are wary of investing too heavily in renewable energy at a time when the technology is not yet ready." These points make Option C a logical inference, highlighting the cost-ineffectiveness of renewable energy in the short term due to technological and other limitations.

Option D is incorrect. While the passage highlights India's potential for solar energy and the government’s push towards a gas-based economy, it also notes the hesitancy of businesses to invest in renewable energy due to technological readiness. Hence, Option D does not qualify as the most logical inference from the passage.
