Prelims 2018

19 boys turn out for playing hockey. Of these, 11 are wearing hockey shirts and 14 are wearing hockey pants. There are no boys without shirts and pants. What is the number of boys wearing full uniform?

Select an option to attempt

Explanation

The total number of boys playing hockey is 19.

Out of these, 14 are wearing hockey pants, which means 5 are not wearing hockey pants.

Thus, 5 boys are only wearing shirts.

There are 11 boys wearing hockey shirts, and since 5 of them are only wearing shirts, it follows that 6 boys (11511 - 5) are in full uniform, wearing both hockey shirts and pants.
