Tips for your answer

• Explain that the eastward expansion of the Thar Desert is driven by both natural processes and anthropogenic degradation, particularly the weakening of the Aravalli ecological barrier.
• Remember UNCCD, ISRO Desertification and Land Degradation Atlas, National Action Programme to Combat Desertification and the Aravalli Green Wall Project.
• Do not equate desertification with the spread of deserts alone. Desertification refers to land degradation that can occur even outside existing desert regions.
