The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has mandated compulsory courses on emerging technologies, cybersecurity, and generative AI for IPS officers.
These courses, hosted on the iGOT Karmayogi platform, will be linked to officers' annual performance appraisal reports.
The decision follows a directive from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for continuous, role-specific capacity building.
A total of 24 courses have been selected, with three mandatory courses for each of four service categories.
Detailed Insights:
The new training regime aims to equip IPS officers with skills relevant to modern policing challenges, including digital threats and advanced technological tools.
The iGOT Karmayogi platform is a digital learning ecosystem under Mission Karmayogi, designed for continuous skill upgradation of civil servants.
For officers with up to nine years of service, mandatory courses include an introduction to emerging technologies, search and seizure procedures, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
Officers with up to 16 years of service will undertake courses on emerging technologies and a foundational module on the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS).
Mid-career officers (16-25 years of service) will cover emerging technologies, evidence-based policymaking, cybersecurity fundamentals, storytelling, and generative AI tools like ChatGPT.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), as the cadre controlling authority for the IPS, is implementing this reform to enhance administrative efficiency and responsiveness.
