Consider the following statements:

I. If $A \le B > C < D > E > F \ge G = H$ ; then B is always greater than E. II. If $P > Q = R \ge S = T \le U = V > W$ ; then S is always less than V.

Which of the statements above is/are correct?

Statement I is incorrect: $A \le B > C < D > E > F \ge G = H$ . Between B and E we have $B > C$ , $C < D$ , $D > E$ (mixed directions), so B and E are not comparably fixed. Example: $B=5$ , $C=4$ , $D=6$ , $E=5$ satisfies the chain, giving $B=E$ (not $B>E$ ). Hence I is false.

Statement II is incorrect: $P > Q = R \ge S = T \le U = V > W$ implies $S \le V$ (since $R \ge S$ and $T \le U$ with $S=T$ and $U=V$ ). It need not be strictly less. Example: $Q=R=4$ , $S=T=3$ , $U=V=3$ , with $P>4$ and $W<3$ , gives $S=V$ (not $S<V$ ). Hence II is false.
