Consider the Question and two Statements given below: Question: Is Z brother of X?

Which one of the following is correct in respect of the Question and the Statements?

Select an option to attempt

Explanation

Statement-1: This tells us that X is male and that Y is a brother to both X and Z. However, it does not specify Z's gender, so we cannot conclude that Z is a brother. Z could either be a brother or a sister.

  • Conclusion: Statement-1 alone is not sufficient to determine if Z is a brother of X.

Statement-2: This only tells us that X, Y, and Z are siblings but gives no information on their gender or relationships as brothers or sisters.

  • Conclusion: Statement-2 alone is not sufficient to determine if Z is a brother of X.

Using Both Statements Together: Even with both statements, we cannot determine Z's gender. While we know that X, Y, and Z are siblings and that X and Y are brothers, we still do not know if Z is a brother or a sister.

  • Conclusion: Both statements together are insufficient to determine if Z is a brother of X.
