The Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) was launched by the Ministry of Power in 2015 to provide a permanent solution for the financial turnaround and revival of power distribution companies (DISCOMs). The scheme's primary mechanism involved state governments taking over 75% of the DISCOM debt (as of September 2015) and issuing low-interest sovereign bonds to lenders, which significantly reduced the interest burden on these companies. It also aimed at operational improvements, such as reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses and improving energy efficiency. Option B refers to the Saubhagya Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana), which was launched in 2017 to achieve universal household electrification.
