Select an option to attempt

Explanation

The student has to choose 2 subjects from 5: Commerce, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics I, and Mathematics II. Mathematics II can only be chosen if Mathematics I is chosen. Without restrictions, there are 10 ways to choose 2 subjects from 5.

However, we must exclude combinations where Mathematics II is chosen without Mathematics I. The invalid combinations are: Commerce and Mathematics II Economics and Mathematics II Statistics and Mathematics II

After removing these 3 invalid combinations, we have 7 valid combinations left. So, the correct answer is 7.
