India and the European Union (EU) have finalized 10 out of 20 chapters in their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced that several other chapters are nearing completion.
The EU team will visit New Delhi next week for the next round of negotiations.
A target to complete negotiations by the end of the calendar year was set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in February.
Detailed Insights:
Negotiations have progressed significantly after discussions between European Commissioner Maros Sefcovic and the Indian team.
Besides the 10 finalized chapters, another four to five chapters have been broadly decided in principle.
Piyush Goyal recently visited Geneva for the 16th session of the UNCTAD, Berlin for the Berlin Global Dialogues, and Brussels for FTA negotiations.
The focus is on achieving a "good deal" rather than strictly adhering to the initially set deadlines.
