The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved capital acquisition proposals worth approximately ₹79,000 crore to enhance the capabilities of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Approvals include procurement of Nag Missile System (NAMIS), Ground-Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES), and High-Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) for the Army.
The Navy will acquire Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), 30 mm naval surface guns, and Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes (ALWTs).
The Air Force will get the Collaborative Long-Range Target Saturation/Destruction System (CLRTS/DS).
Detailed Insights:
The NAMIS will enhance the Army's ability to destroy armored vehicles and fortified positions.
The GBMES will provide continuous electronic intelligence on enemy emitters, improving situational awareness.
HMVs will significantly improve logistic support for the Army in difficult terrains.
LPDs will augment the Navy’s amphibious warfare capabilities and support joint operations, peacekeeping, and HADR missions.
The indigenous ALWT, developed by DRDO, can engage conventional, nuclear, and midget submarines.
The CLRTS/DS will enhance the IAF’s long-range precision engagement capacity with autonomous capabilities.
These acquisitions align with the government’s focus on modernization, self-reliance, and indigenization under the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
Key Concepts Involved:
Acceptance of Necessity (AoN): A formal approval granted by the DAC for initiating the procurement of defense equipment.
