Shah launches platform to analyse IED blast data, Pg5
Amit Shah launches NIDMS, AI-powered platform for IED blast data analysis, enhancing counter-terrorism efforts and inter-agency coordination nationwide.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) on Friday as a digital platform to analyze IED blasts nationwide.
Developed by the NSG, the NIDMS uses AI and machine learning to study bombing patterns.
The platform was built with support from Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU), IIT-Delhi, the NIA, and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
The NIDMS is housed at the NSG garrison in Manesar and is part of the NSG's National Bomb Data Centre (NBDC), established in 2000.
Detailed Insights:
The NIDMS aims to serve as a "one nation one data repository" for IED blasts, enhancing inter-agency coordination and improving forensic evidence quality to speed up prosecution.
The platform will provide comprehensive data access to state police, state anti-terrorist squads, central investigative agencies, and federal forces, enabling analysis of bombing trends.
The NSGDG Brighu Srinivasan highlighted the platform as a real-time information exchange for agencies involved in counter-terror and counter-insurgency operations.
The database already has approximately 800 users from various agencies and during its preparatory phase, 26 "friendly" countries were approached and none had a comparable facility.
IEDs remain a significant internal security threat, and the NIDMS is designed to act as a "next generation security shield against terror" and a deterrent against bombings.
Key Concepts Involved:
IED (Improvised Explosive Device): A bomb constructed and deployed in ways other than in conventional military action.
NSG (National Security Guard): A counter-terrorism unit under the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.
AI (Artificial Intelligence): The simulation of human intelligence processes by computer systems.
