Airbus will manufacture its H125 helicopter in Vemagal, Karnataka, marking the establishment of the first private sector final assembly line (FAL) in India.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will set up the FAL, adding to their existing facility for Airbus C295 military aircraft in Vadodara, Gujarat.
The project was announced on Republic Day 2024 in conjunction with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The first made-in-India H125 helicopter is expected to be delivered in early 2027.
Detailed Insights:
The H125M, a military version of the H125, is planned with advanced components and technologies, potentially replacing Cheetan and Chetak helicopters.
The H125 aims to cater to civil and para-public sectors and fulfill the Indian armed forces' need for a light multi-role helicopter, especially in high-altitude regions.
The collaboration between Airbus and TASL strengthens the partnership between Tata and Airbus for aerospace manufacturing in India.
Currently, Airbus produces H125 helicopters in France, the United States, and Brazil.
Key Concepts Involved:
Final Assembly Line (FAL): A manufacturing facility where the final components of a product are assembled.
Para-public Sector: Organizations that operate with a mix of public and private characteristics.
