The PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme, a new central sector initiative, was launched in November 2024 to ensure no student is denied higher education due to financial constraints.
It provides collateral-free and guarantor-free education loans for merit-based admissions in Quality Higher Education Institutions (QHEIs).
A 3% interest subvention is offered on loans up to ₹10 lakh for students with an annual family income up to ₹8 lakh.
An outlay of ₹3,600 crore is allocated from 2024-25 to 2030-31 to benefit up to 7 lakh fresh students with interest subvention.
The PM Vidyalaxmi portal (pmvidyalaxmi.co.in) facilitates loan applications and interest subvention, operational since February 2025.
