Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA)
Government establishes Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) for unified planning, appraisal, and monitoring of India's transport infrastructure projects.
The Government approved the establishment of the Integrated Transport & Logistics Authority (ITLA) on 6 October 2026.
ITLA will serve as an apex institutional mechanism for integrated planning, research, project appraisal, monitoring, and impact assessment across transportation and logistics.
It will prepare a comprehensive National Transport Master Plan with a planning horizon of 10 years or more, covering all transport modes.
The authority will undertake technical appraisal and monitoring of Government of India infrastructure projects costing ₹500 crore or more.
ITLA will develop a National Transport Data Repository (NTDR) by integrating various transport and logistics datasets like GSTN e-way bills and FASTag.
It complements existing initiatives such as the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan and the National Logistics Policy.
Detailed Insights:
ITLA aims to enhance the efficient movement of goods and ensure well-connected, integrated transport networks across the country.
Its mandate includes providing policy support and data analytics to strengthen coordinated decision-making across the entire transport sector.
The authority will evaluate short-term sectoral plans and annual plans of transport ministries for alignment with the long-term master plan.
By creating a unified data repository, ITLA will support evidence-based planning, freight-flow analysis, and origin-destination studies.
It will foster inter-ministerial coordination and promote multimodal infrastructure development for seamless connectivity.
The establishment of ITLA aligns with global best practices in integrated transport planning and institutional capacity building.
This initiative is crucial for improving infrastructure efficiency and contributing to India’s Vision 2047 for a competitive logistics ecosystem.
